New York Yankees’ slide continues. Drop series to San Diego Padres
By Jason Marcum
It’s been a tough stretch for the New York Yankees, who have now dropped five of the past eight contests after today’s loss to the San Diego Padres, 6-3. The win for the Padres gave them a rare series-clinching win of the Bronx Bombers.
They could use any kind of boost right now, and the potential return of third-baseman Alex Rodriguez could be enough of a boost to help the slumping Yankees make a late-season run and win one of the two wild card spots. As of now, they are just 4.5 games back of the final wild card spot.
While even a deteriorated and aging A-Rod would be of some help, it may not happen at all, at least this season. ESPN reported today A-Rod will be suspended Monday, and it will likely through the end of the 2014 season.
Rodriguez said he would work out on Sunday and then fly to Chicago, where he expects to play Monday for the Yankees.
“I’m flying to Chicago,” said Rodriguez in an interview. If he does play Monday, it will be his 2013 MLB debut, as he’s not played in 2013 after offseason hip surgery.
