The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to storm ahead of the National League West, doing it away from Dodgers Stadium with their 15th straight road victory and their ace, Zack Greinke, picking up career victory number 100 in a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Greinke gave up eight hits but just two runs in 6.1 innings of work in what ended up being a pitcher’s duel with Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright. In seven innings, Wainwright had a better night overall with the exception of giving up just one more run in his last inning, ultimately resulting in the difference of the game.
That difference was actually thanks to Greinke, who drove in Nick Punto for the Dodgers’ third and final run of the game. Greinke went 8-13 at the plate in July, and his production at the plate doesn’t seem to slow down anytime soon.
Both starting pitchers threw 105 pitches in the game.
Everybody had a hit in the Cardinals’ starting lineup except Wainwright and Daniel Descalso. The team left eight runners in scoring position compared to the Dodgers going 2-5 in that category.
The series continues with three more games beginning tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 PM CT at Busch Stadium. ESPN will carry a nationally televised contest on Wednesday.
