Jerry Wolman, the former owner of the Philadelphia Eagles’ franchise in the 1960’s, died today.

From the Associated Press:

"The team said Wolman died Tuesday at his home in Potomac, Md. Wolman was the youngest owner in the NFL when he bought the Eagles from James P. Clark at age 36 in December 1963. The Eagles were 28-41-1 during his five seasons as owner. The Eagles held a moment of silence for Wolman before Friday night’s preseason opener against the New England Patriots at Lincoln Financial Field."

Wolman built his own construction company even after not finishing high school once his dad suffered a stroke. He eventually bought the Eagles at a $5,505,000 price tag.

He also was a founder of the Philadelphia Flyers team back in 1967, but had to give up ownership of both the Eagles and Flyers in the next two years when his construction company went under shortly after buying the Flyers.

Eventually, Wolman had to sell his share back to the co-owners for the Flyers in 1967 and sold the Eagles to Leonard Tose in 1969, who made a fortune in the trucking industry.
