Mo Williams, who has the potential to be a starting point guard for a few select teams in the NBA, declined to sign elsewhere, a place where he could start, just to sign with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Williams’ role with Portland is unclear, although he will likely be one of the first guards off of the bench for the team. Williams said he plans on becoming the teams Sixth starter, which is a huge boost, considering the Trail Blazers second team last season was one of the worst in the entire league.
So the guard rotation now includes Damian Lillard, Wes Matthews, C.J. McCollum, Earl Watson, Allen Crabbe and Will Barton along side Mo Williams.
Williams gives them a veteran point guard to back up Lillard who can shoot and run the offense.
The veteran guard averaged 13 points and six assists last season for the Utah Jazz before an injury cut his season short. He shot 43 percent from the field and 38 percent from the arc.
He had one of his highest assist percentages last season 46 games for the Jazz.
Mo Williams: "I just want to win. I had opportunities to start (elsewhere)." ... "... look at me as a sixth starter."
