Back in April, Jason Collins became the first athlete in the four main professional American sports (MLB, NBA, NHL, NFL) to reveal his homosexuality. Just four months later, a team has shown some interest in signing the free agent center.

The Detroit Pistons have ‘expressed exploratory interest’ in Jason Collins, according to an article on ESPN.com. There has been no offer made as of yet, but since the process has just been exploratory so far, there have been discussions between both parties. The Pistons have made some major changes this off season, especially with their two key acquisitions, Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings. According to the ESPN article,

"One guaranteed contract shy of the league’s limit of 15, Detroit is said to be intrigued by the veteran know-how Collins possesses and views him as a potential insurance signing in support of its two blossoming big men: Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond."

The possibility of adding Collins makes sense, he has veteran experience for sure; he’s been playing with multiple teams since the 2001-02 season. He specializes in defense, and could help round out Detroit’s exciting roster. It will be interesting to see how the next few days pan out for the two parties, as many teams around the league doubted Collins’ ability to still play the game. Many organizations believed that Collins wouldn’t be playing in the upcoming NBA season, regardless of sexual orientation.

Personally, I would love to see Collins prove his doubters wrong. I think it would be interesting to see him play for a team like the Pistons, who have gone from a rebuilding team to a possible playoff team.

What do you think? Do you think a deal will be made, and if so, when do you think it will happen?
