Delonte West discusses his mental health issues, LeBron rumor
By Stu White
Delonte West, currently looking to make an NBA roster, had some fascinating things to say in an interview with the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn on Sunday. West touched on depression, his label of being bi-polar, and the infamous rumors involving him and LeBron James’ mother.
Here’s West on depression and how money isn’t a “cure”:
"The majority of America is not making that type of money, they’re looking at it from a money aspect. ‘Hey I make $40,000 or $60,000 and if I was getting paid $3 million, I wouldn’t be having no problems in the world. Man I would just feel great about myself.’ But that’s not what it is. You’re associating happiness with money. And the last time I checked, there was a CVS or Walgreens on every block or corner. And there’s a prescription aisle right in the back and every time you go to the hospital, how long do you have to wait to see the doctor because everybody in America has something."
West then spoke about the LeBron situation, saying the rumors were unfounded and hurtful:
"And the best player in the world (LeBron James), allegedly (I) had sex with his mother. Growing up in the hood, that’s the worst thing you could say is something about somebody’s mother. That would get you punched in the face. That hits home. You have ignorance, people yell across the Walmart, ‘Yeah how did that go (with LeBron’s mother)?’ I gotta deal with that."
The interview is worth reading in full, so go check it out. We wish Delonte West the best as he tries to get his life and career back in order.
