Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer is still working to get back to 100 percent following knee surgery, but it looks like he will still be out two to three weeks. Spencer would love to put his rehab into the next gear, but he understands that it is best to take his time towards getting fully healthy so that he can be on the field when the Cowboys make their regular season debut.
“I’m just focused on getting healthy,” Spencer said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I still can’t do a lot of running around and stuff, the stuff that I want to do, so I don’t feel very encouraged right now. I’ve still got a little bit of time, so I’m working on getting healthy.
“Reps are the only way you can get better at football. I know that.”
Spencer could use the reps during training camp as he completes his transition to defensive end in the team’s new 4-3 defense, but he has experience at the position from his college days at Purdue so he should be good to go regardless.
It will just be a matter of whether or not he is in game shape when the regular season kicks off.
