WWE Summer Slam live this Sunday!
By David Miniel
WWE Summer Slam comes to us Live this Sunday from the Staples Center!
The card will be the following. Subject to change.
WWE Champion John Cena vs Daniel Bryan w/Triple H as Special Guest Referee – This match has gotten the spotlight it needed and could turn out to be a beautiful match with how the storyline has worked out so far. Daniel Bryan isn’t the typical “Superstar” Mr. McMahon has in mind when it comes to WWE Champion, but Stephanie McMahon and Triple H think otherwise. It would be a long shot for Daniel Bryan, but it isn’t impossible. The segment between Cena and Bryan on Miz TV this past WWE RAW was pretty entertaining. The fact that Triple H is special referee for this match could provide a couple outcomes for this match.
CM Punk vs Brock Lesnar – This is my favorite match on the card. CM Punk’s in ring ability and the skills he has on the microphone, along with Paul Heyman’s mic skills has made this a main event type match. This is a match you could possibly see at WrestleMania, but we get to witness it on Sunday instead. I have seen some posters that has had CM Punk as Wolverine and Brock Lesnar as The Hulk, which in a way fits this match up. You have the not so big CM Punk against a man who was in the UFC and NFL at one point after he walked away from the WWE years ago. I think the match will end up stealing the show, considering that’s what CM Punk always likes to do when his match isn’t the final match on the card. I think this feud doesn’t end here. I like CM Punk and all but I think Lesnar somehow walks away with the win, setting up another match up, possibly at Night of Champions or Survivor Series.
World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs Christian – After Chris Jericho walked away from the WWE once again to go on tour with his band, I wasn’t sure who was going to step in and become the No. 1 contender for Del Rios championship. Then Christian slowly started to emerge from the pack of wrestlers who were to be in the mix of becoming that No. 1 contender. In a way it makes sense as it is rumored that Christian is near the end of his career. He’s been talking about ‘One More Match’ and this Sunday could very well be his last match. Christian could end up winning the World Heavyweight Championship one last time. I think Ricardo Rodriguez gets involved on Christian’s behalf and he becomes World Heavyweight Champion again. I don’t think Sandow will cash in.
Kane vs Bray Wyatt in an Inferno Match – They are calling it a Ring of Fire match, but if you have been watching WWE for a long time, you may know it as an Inferno Match. This was definitely an interesting choice for WWE to have the Wyatt Family attacking Kane in their debut. I love The Wyatt Family, Bray’s ability on the microphone to get the crowd’s attention and hold that attention with every last word, is something rare with current Superstars on the roster. There are only a handful who can actually get the crowd interested in the program besides the wrestling. The whole ‘Follow the Buzzards’ thing is brilliant and I think Wyatt wins this match up, setting up a Survivor Series match up between The Wyatt Family and the Brothers of Destruction (Kane and Undertaker).
Cody Rhodes vs Damien Sandow – A match up that could get attention from fans who are looking for other Superstars to rise to the main event level. Rhodes has picked up a ton of speed when it comes to becoming a baby face and Sandow is playing the perfect heel for this storyline. This is a very well scripted feud and I applaud the WWE for making this happen. The whole turn on Rhodes at Money in the Bank was well planned and I think some fans seen it coming and wanted to see it happen. This could be a five to eight minute, three to four star match depending on where it is on the card. Hopefully they hit all their spots correctly, this match has a lot of potential.
Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn vs Big E. Langston and A.J. Lee – This stable was destined to fail as soon as Ziggler picked up the World Heavyweight Championship, slowly transitioning himself into a face for the company. Right now Ziggler is making himself one of the top faces of the company, he isn’t there yet but he should be soon. This could a match that only lasts maybe five minutes depending on what they have the Divas do in the match up. I think Langston and Lee continue to have their problems, eventually breaking them two up.
Natalya vs Brie Bella – Not really expecting a lot out of this match up, could even get scrapped. Honestly this should be the kick off match on YouTube.
United States Champion Dean Ambrose vs Rob Van Dam – For some reason this match is on YouTube, this is a PPV worthy match up. Ambrose is good in the ring and I think he is going to get the best brought out of him by in ring veteran Rob Van Dam. I see Ambrose losing the United States Championship to Rob Van Dam, setting up a rematch at Night of Champions, which could open up The Shield putting the WWE Tag Team Titles up against Mark Henry and The Big Show at Night of Champions.
