Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer scratched due to dizziness
Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer has been scratched from Tuesday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers due to dizziness, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
According to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire insisted Maurer was fine after taking several foul balls off of his mask Monday night against the New York Mets, but that is apparently not the case.
Berardino also noted that Gardenhire said Mauer probably wouldn’t catch against Detroit no matter the situation.
Mauer is batting .324, has an OBP of .404 and is slugging .476 on the season.
Ryan Doumit will catch for the Twins Tuesday night. He’s batting .244, has an OBP of .307 and is slugging .390.
Mike Pelfrey (4-10, 5.26 ERA) will get the start for the Twins while Rick Porcello (9-6, 4.33 ERA) will take the mound for the Tigers.
