New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith missed the team’s second preseason game of the year with a sprained ankle that he suffered in Week One against the Detroit Lions, but it looks like the team will be giving him one more chance to win the starting job by giving him the start for the team’s third preseason game against the New York Giants.
From Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News:
Barring a setback with his ankle in next few days, I'm told Geno Smith will start vs Giants on Saturday. #nyj

The third preseason game is generally when starters get the most playing time, so Smith will have a great opportunity to impress the coaching staff on the field.
Veteran Mark Sanchez has done a solid job throughout the first two preseason games, but if Smith is able to put together an impressive performance against the Giants he will have a real shot at starting the season-opener in a few weeks.
