Red Sox phenom Xander Bogaerts makes his debut tonight
Shortstop Xander Bogaerts will make his much anticipated debut for the Boston Red Sox when they take on the San Francisco Giants Tuesday night.
Bogaerts actually joined the Red Sox Monday, but did not play in their 7-0 victory over the Giants.
Bogaerts is ranked as the third best prospect in all of baseball by ESPN’s Keith Law.
Here is Law’s take on the 20-year old phenom:
"Big shocker here, right? The question, as it has been with every other mid-season update, isn’t about whether Bogaerts would top Boston’s list. It was where he would end up relative to everyone else. He’s basically a consensus top-three prospect at this point, a huge get for a team that, until this year, wasn’t anywhere near that kind of talent in the draft thanks to quality records. That’s what you hope to fix with international signings, though, and while they don’t all work out, sometimes you get Xander Bogaerts."
Red Sox manager John Farrell confirmed that the usual starting shortstop, Stephen Drew would get the day off while Bogaerts will start at shortstop and bat seventh. Farrell told reporters “we’re looking forward to the Bogaerts era getting underway.”
Bogaerts also got some work a third base with the Triple Pawtucket Red Sox and could see more time there if starter Will Middlebrooks struggles.
