Von Miller’s offseason continues to get worse. Earlier this summer we found out that he was facing a four game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. We then later found out that could in fact be a six game suspension. Monday it came out that Miller will not avoid suspension.
Now Miller has been listed as a witness in a murder trial that could result in the death penalty.
From 9News.com:
"The case involves the deaths of five people inside Fero’s Bar and Grill on October 17, 2012. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Dexter Lewis, 23. Two co-defendants have already pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.Von Miller’s name appears along with dozens of other names in a court filing obtained by 9News.In the motion, Miller is listed as “a possible acquaintance of (a friend of Lewis) and may testify about prior events and the Defendant’s attire.” 9News is seeking clarification of this line from the Denver District Attorney’s Office.Denver Police investigators believe Lewis fatally stabbed the five victims before helping ignite the inside of the building using gasoline."
The Denver Broncos organization has said that they are aware that Miller has been listed as an eyewitness. The Broncos also were told that Miller had zero involvement in the murders themselves.
This isn’t the kind of offseason a 2011 defensive rookie of the year and a 2012 first-team All-Pro wants to have heading into a season with championship aspirations.
