New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez was suspended by Major League Baseball for 211 games for his role in the Biogenesis scandal. He is the lone player implicated that is appealing his suspension, allowing him to play in the meantime. He has apologized to his Yankees teammates and is no longer answering questions about the suspension.
His teammates and baseball fans are certainly tired of hearing about the suspension and it dragging on. MLB has offered A-Rod a 150 game ban instead.
From USA Today:
"A person close to Rodriguez, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the topic, told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday that Rodriguez rejected a 100-game ban from MLB days before the announcement of his 211-game suspension and has a standing offer of 150 games."
MLB is denying the reports of an alternative offer.
“We have not offered 100 games and no offer is on the table,” MLB vice president Rob Manfred said in an e-mail to USA TODAY Sports.
Rodriguez’s lawyer Joe Tacopina, who was embarrassed on the Today Show, says Alex “wants his day in court.”
Tacopina maintains that the MLB does not have a case.
“Their case is in shambles,” Tacopina said. “They can talk a tough game, but we’ll see how they act in a courtroom and a court proceeding. I will annihilate them.”
“Every player involved in Biogenesis except Alex Rodriguez accepted their discipline,” Manfred said. “We have detailed information regarding his use of PEDs, which was longer and more pervasive than other players, and about his efforts to obstruct our investigation.”
