According to Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle, his new shooting guard, former Milwaukee Bucks and Golden State Warriors scorer Monta Ellis, is the fastest player in the NBA.

According to Eddie Sefko, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban feels the same way.

“I never thought I’d see somebody make J.J. [Barea] look slow,” Cuban said. “Monta’s a blur. Monta truly is a one-man fast-break.”

Ellis is obviously a very fast player, but the fastest seems like quite a stretch. Especially with the likes of  the Washington Wizards’ John Wall and Russell Westbrook of Oklahoma City Thunder in the league right now.

Ellis is better now for his scoring prowess. Last season, Ellis averaged 19.2 points, 6.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. He shot 41.6% from the field, 28.7% from beyond the arc and 77.3% from the free throw line. For his career, he’s averaged 19.4 points, 4.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 45.6% from the field, 31.8% from three and 77.3% from the charity stripe.

Ellis signed a three year, $30 million deal with the Mavericks in July.
