Mat Latos and the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks today in a one run game.

Latos threw eight innings of one run ball. It was a big outing from him today when the bullpen really needed a day off. The young right hander gave up just five hits, that were all singles and no walks while striking out six batters.

He has allowed a total of six runners over his last six starts, dropping his ERA from 3.38 to 2.93. He will try to keep things going as he starts against the St. Louis Cardinals in a National League Central showdown.

Brandon Phillips grounded out to second baseman Aaron Hill in the bottom of the third to drive in Shin-Soo Choo who scored twice in this game. Choo was driven in later on in the game during the bottom of the eighth inning after a wild pitch by Eury De La Rosa.

Aaron Hill plated the only Diamondbacks run of the contest with a ground ball to third baseman Todd Frazier, driving in Adam Eaton.

Eaton who finished the day 2-3, has been hitting .309 with two home runs, seven RBI’s and nine runs scored in 16 games this month.

Trevor Cahill picked up a no-decision today after throwing just 50 pitches out of 90 for strikes. He managed to hold the Reds to just one run. His next start will come against the San Diego Padres next week.

Sam LeCure tossed a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first career save.
