According to FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi, Kendrys Morales has been claimed off waivers by an unknown team.

If a trade is going to happen, it will need to happen within the week. Morales has posted a decent .284/.340/.449 batting line with 17 home runs and 67 RBI’s in 124 games this season with the Seattle Mariners.

The Mariners could have traded him during the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline but decided to hold onto him. It has to be obvious that a playoff contender has placed a claim on the 30 year old designated hitter/first baseman. It would more than likely be an American League team looking to add depth at the designated hitters slot of their lineup.

The Cuban switch-hitter is earning $5.25 million this season, which means he is owed roughly $1 million for the remainder of the season. So whoever picks him up should be prepared to throw out some change his way, but should be worth it if they are serious about making a World Series run.

Morales is set to become a free agent this off-season, so this could be a try out for whoever trades for him.
