Memphis Grizzlies release Fab Melo
By Dante Nelson
Two weeks ago, the Memphis Grizzlies traded Donte Greene to the Boston Celtics for Fab Melo. Today, the Grizzlies let go of Fab Melo.
Thanks to Washington Post for the tip.
Melo didn’t play much during his rookie campaign with the Celtics as he appeared in only six games. Going into the league, he was figured to be a project. With a name like that, I’d like to see him make it onto another squad. Could Fab end up playing overseas? The Brazilian Center does have that option.
Quite a few players come into the league and barely make it past their rookie contract. They go across the pond and return with a more mature game. In a league where great centers are few, Melo just needs to improve to the point where he’d be a solid back-up and he’d be around for a long time.
Shoot, the Sixers have taken in a lot of players with less than three years experience in the league. Melo could fit there while they wait for Nerlens Noel to recover from his ACL injury. Really, he could shine on a rebuilding team, since I doubt he’d get meaningful playing time on a good-great team. Then again, we didn’t see much of him so maybe he just needs more games.
No matter what, I guess the only “Melo” in the league will be Carmelo Anthony.
