So, it’s only August. Well, we’re at the very end of August. Anyway, we’re talking about how Pau Gasol could be moved at the trade deadline. And this time, it would make sense.
Right now, they don’t anticipate moving him. And his status on the team is dependent on the status of the team once the deadline rolls around. Yes, the Lakers anticipate Kobe being with the team by then. And, if the Lakers are in too deep a hole, there’s great possibility that they will blow it up. Well, not blow it up, but they will do something to be younger while still having a shot at the title.
And while Kobe has said that he wants Pau here, ultimately, the Lakers may do what they want. Gasol has struggled in the last season (didn’t everybody on that team struggle?). He couldn’t get a handle on playing with Dwight Howard and the offense of coach Mike D’Antoni. If Gasol can’t play in this system, it makes sense to get rid of him or the coach. Kobe is on his way out but they are trying to get one more ring out of him. And so time is precious. It’s now or never. Let’s hope that, with no other interior competition (as from Andrew Bynum and Howard) Gasol can shine.
And the Lakers to have a chance at the crown by February.
