Detroit Lions first round draft pick Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah returned to practice today but did not practice. This is the first time he has been on the practice field since suffering an apparent concussion on August 24th. In practice he simulated snaps by hiking a football on a stick and holding a tackling dummy during drills.

Head coach Jim Schwartz didn’t reveal any information, particularly whether Ansah would be available for the season opener.

“We’re not going to announce any starters,” he said. “It doesn’t do us any good to announce that stuff right now.”

“We’ll get all those guys back as quick as we can,” Schwartz said, via the Detroit Free Press. “I think we’ll be fairly healthy going into the first game, about the best we could expect coming out of training camp. But as coaches we’re ready to go any direction if we have to.”

Schwartz isn’t worried about all the time off either.

“He got a lot of reps early in camp,” Schwartz said. “I think all our players need as many reps as they can possibly get, so he’s no different than anybody else on the team as far as that goes.”
