Isaac Redman to start for Pittsburgh Steelers
By Josh Sanchez
There was some uncertainty surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers running back competition thanks to the release of Johnathan Dwyer and the injury to rookie second-round pick Le’Veon Bell. It was expected that the team would roll with veteran Isaac Redman as the lead back, but rumors suggested that the recently acquired Felix Jones could be gaining steam as the potential No. 1 back.
While the team had flirted with different options and ideas, it was the familiarity with Redman that gave him the edge in the competition.
From Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
The Steelers will be using a running back committee during Bell’s absence, so while Redman is the top man on the depth chart you can still expect to see plenty of Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling.
Redman does fit the Steelers physical running style, but if the team wants a real home run threat in the backfield they would be wise to go with one of the options. Unfortunately, they will be waiting at least one week before realizing that.
