Giants C Buster Posey won’t play Wednesday
The San Francisco Giants will be without the 2012 National League MVP when they take on the San Diego Pades Wednesday night.
Posey lost the nail on his right index finger during the sixth inning of the Giants 3-2 loss to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night. He was hit by a ball pitcher Madison Bumgarner bounced on the way to the plate.
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reported Posey said his finger is sore today.
Hector Sanchez, who is batting .250 with an on base percentage of .337 and is slugging .355, will replace Posey behind the plate and bat seventh. Sanchez has two home runs and 14 RBI.
Posey, who has helped lead the Giants to two World Series titles in four seasons, is batting .309, has an OBP of .377 and is slugging .475 with 14 home runs and 69 RBI.
The Padres and Giants will get underway at 6:40 pm EST at Petco Park in San Diego, California. The Giants will send Tim Lincecum (8-13, 4.38 ERA) to the hill while the Padres will counter with Eric Stults (8-12, 3.79 ERA).
