Carolina Panthers reach injury settlement with WR David Gettis
By Jason Marcum
On the eve of the 2013 NFL season opening for all 32 teams, the Carolina Panthers are making a last-second roster move by releasing wide receiver David Gettis:
The former Baylor Bear was expected to help upgrade the thin Panther receiving corps, but he seriously injured his hamstring in pregame warm-ups before the preseason finale, and it looks as though he won’t be healthy for a while.
Gettis was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the 6th round (198th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft, and has just 13 career receptions, zero of which have come since the 2010 NFL season. He missed the entire 2011 season with a torn ACL while a hamstring issue limited him to just two games last season.
He finished the 2010 season with a team-high 3 touchdown catches, as well as 508 receiving yards on 37 catches.
The third-year pro out of Baylor may have something left to offer a team, but it’s unlikely it will be this year. He’ll attempt to catch on with someone’s training camp next year.
