The Spartans will start redshirt sophomore Connor Cook over second-year starter Andrew Maxwell.

Maxwell was shut down last week by Western Michigan’s secondary. He was 11 of 21 for 74 yards in MSU’s 26-13 win against the Broncos.

Cook wasn’t any better, however. He was 6 of 16 for 42 yards and a 2.6 average.

Cook may not be an upgrade, but he is a breath of fresh air to a Spartans receiving corp that lacks in production.

MSU hosts USF at noon Saturday at Spartan Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
