Rookies will make silly mistakes, especially during Week One of the regular season, and New York Jets rookie signal-caller Geno Smith almost made one of the top fails of the week by attempting to call a timeout just a few seconds before the two minute warning.

Smith looked at the ref and signaled for the timeout, but the referee did his best to ignore the first year quarterback and make sure he didn’t embarrass himself.

Even if Smith would have got the timeout called before the two minute warning, it wouldn’t have been his worst mistake on the afternoon.

He has consistently struggled finding open receivers and going through his progressions and then he failed to remember that there was a two-minute warning in the pro game.

Geno Smith could be a star quarterback for the Jets later down the road, but first he will need to develop a lot more.
