The Indianapolis Colts made a surprising run just a season ago and they entered the 2013-14 NFL regular season as one of the most promising young teams in the league. They are off to a modest 1-1 start to the new season, but their offense just took a big blow thanks to an injury to tight end Dwayne Allen.

Allen seemed poised for a breakout season and he was part of a dynamic tight end duo alongside Coby Fleener, but now it is being learned that the team will be without Allen for the remainder of the year because he will require season-ending hip surgery.

NFL Around the League passed along the news from the team’s head coach:

Without Allen, the Colts will need to see Coby Fleener step up his game to the next level.

The good news is that Fleener already has chemistry with quarterback Andrew Luck thanks to their playing days together at Stanford, so hopefully they can get the offense back on track and work towards making another playoff appearance.
