Washington Nationals acquire Matt Spann from the Rays to complete David DeJesus trade
By David Miniel
The stress level of David DeJesus’s wife was through the roof after her husband was moved between three teams within a couple of days.
When he was traded by the Cubs, I was a little bummed out. DeJesus was a loved player by the fans of the Cubbies and when he returned the next day as a member of the Washington Nationals, he got a standing ovation. Cubs fans are very dedicated to almost every play who wears that uniform and plays hard every day.
Unless you’re Milton Bradley.
Now the trade between the Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays happened about a month or so ago, but the player’s name who was said to be released later is now revealed. The Nats will pick up 22 year old left handed pitcher Matt Spann.
Spann was drafted in the 25th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft. The kid stands at 6’7 and weighs in around 185 pounds. That big guy throwing off the mound will be like him throwing off of a cliff. In four years in the minors with the Rays, he’s carried a career record of 14-10 with a 3.03 ERA with 157 strike outs.
This season he posted a 2.87 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 35/21 K/BB ratio in nearly 60 innings of work this season.
I would say Tampa Bay got a steal with this trade and DeJesus looks like he’s happy there.
