This season the Boston Celtics are going to look completely different without veterans Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett in uniform and taking the court for this franchise.
With the team clearly in rebuild mode, this squad now belongs to point guard Rajon Rondo. Right now Rondo is trying to come back from major knee surgery and will be able to play this season, just not right away.
General manager Danny Ainge spoke to reporters about Rondo’s status and when he could possibly play. According to ESPN’s Chris Forsberg, Ainge said he would be “shocked” if he’s ready for the season opener.
With Rondo sidelined until December, back ups Jared Sullinger and Avery Bradley are going to have to control the ship until their captain returns. There were some rumors going around earlier in the year that the Celtics were open to trading the young point guard even after Garnett and Pierce were dealt to Brooklyn.
I’m sure these rumors will pick up again during the season, but I don’t see him going anywhere. I think he stays with the Celtics organization until the day he retires.
