The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to unload quarterback Josh Freeman. They’ve made cold calls to NFL teams and will have called every NFL team by the need of the day according to ESPN’s Ed Werder. Unfortunately they’re only getting “mild interest” from other teams.
From ESPN:
"Tampa Bay general manager Mark Dominik has made calls to about one-third of the teams in the NFL to determine whether they have interest in trading for the quarterback, and the team will have contacted every team by the end of the day, according to sources. Interest has been described as being mild."
Josh Freeman is clearly the best quarterback on the market for a team looking for a starter. The problem is his $6.2 million remaining salary. That is a lot to play for someone who had a poor start to the season.
There doesn’t seem to be an NFL team on the market for a quarterback besides maybe the Jacksonville Jaguars, or any fan base who’d want Freeman to be their quarterback. Maybe the Jaguars are the Bucs best hope.
