Washington Redskins alternate names and logos (Photos)
By Mike Dyce
The growing outrage over the Washington Redskins has opened up the debate over what the new name and logo should be if they decided to buckle and change it?
According to USA TODAY, “Robert McCartney of the Washington Post suggested the Washington Warriors, Slate editor David Plotz liked the Washington Griffins, and Ken Meringolo and Kevin Ewoldt of SB Nation offered up the Washington Renegades.”
The website 99 designs created a contest where artists could design a new logo for the Redskins if they were to change their names using these suggestions, and most of them are pretty cool.
The Warriors name makes sense to me, it has an indian feel though most contestants took it to mean soldiers instead. I think of indians when I hear Warriors because it was my high school mascot but I like the soldier interpretation better. Renegades I like because the spelling is similar to Redskins, or at least the first two letters. Griffins I don’t get at all. It obviously stems from a Robert Griffin III, but naming it after a mythological creature?
It looks like Renegades was hard to visualize and most just resorted to an R. The Warriors one I like the most is the second below. The first Griffins design is leading, personally don’t like it because it reminds me a lot of another NFC team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Here are some of my favorites but there are hundreds more at the 99 Designs site.
