What good is fantasy baseball if not for wild speculation?!? It’s only October but we’re going to give you a list of the Top 10 fantasy baseball catchers for 2014!

But weep not for quality fantasy baseball journalism, dear Crackerjack readers, for I’ll share my rationale, even if off-season developments will surely shuffle this list.

  1. Buster Posey It shouldn’t be a surprise that he dropped off from his 2012, as the second half he had was one for the ages. Still, even with the regression he provides that most complete package at catcher. We profile him here.
  2. Joe Mauer Maybe fantasy baseball journalism is dead, because I’m ranking Joe here simply because I like him. That, and the fact that it’s too easy to overlook what he doesn’t bring (home runs) while underplaying what he does bring (everything else). We profile him here.
  3. Carlos Santana He’s great in OBP leagues and at parties. One year he’s truly going to cut loose and that year might be 2014.
  4. Wilin Rosario The average will regress but the power will not. 20+ bombs out of your backstop (that sounded weirder than I wanted it to) is nice. We profile him here.
  5. Yadier Molina Everyone loves the new Yadier but eventually age will have those numbers slip by 10% or so.
  6. Jonathan Lucroy He’s still young but he’s strung together 1.5+ years of solid production. I’m expecting similar in 2014. We profile him here.
  7. Salvador Perez After 2013 he becomes a little harder to read, but there is still reason for optimism that the power will come. We profile him here.
  8. Wilson Ramos This is the year he takes a giant leap forward as one of baseball’s best. Mark your calendars.
  9. Brian McCann I think Paul Blart, Unwritten Rules of Baseball Cop will end up in Texas. If that happens, we’ll see another couple good years of offense out of him.
  10. Evan Gattis Sure he seems like he’s an all of nothing player, but what’s so bad about that when you think about it?

Just missed: Jason Castro (the Astros may not score ever in 2014), Victor Martinez / Mike Napoli (catchers in name only), Matt Wieters (I’m sick of waiting on him to fulfill his potential), and Yan Gomes.
