The 2013 Oakland Athletics had an amazing season as they clinched the American League West, but failed to defeat the Detroit Tigers in Game five of the ALDS.

Next season will be another promising year for the Athletics as they’ve clawed their way back to being contenders within the last decade with some help from Billy Beane. Now the team hasn’t wasted time decision on whose options are going to be picked up.

Veteran outfielder Coco Crisp is one of those players. Now according to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Oakland Athletics are not expected to pick up catcher Kurt Suzuki’s 2014 option. A little surprising but when the team has three options who can take over and provide the same level of play (John Jaso, Derek Norris and Stephen Vogt), it can save this team a little money.

Now Suzuki won’t have a problem finding a big league contract. The Chicago Cubs are interested in spending some money on a catcher during the Winter Meetings and Suzuki could be their man.

Outfielder Josh Reddick will undergo an MRI on his right wright in a couple weeks and may need to have surgery. The recovery time could be from one or two months which gives him plenty of time to be ready for Spring Training. Worst case scenario, he misses a couple games of exhibition play but there’s no reason why he won’t be ready for Opening Day.
