The Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings each come into the game looking for their second win on the season. The Vikings quarterback situation is still murky overall, but Matt Cassel is getting the start this week and it could be his last opportunity to show he deserves to be the starter.

“One thing you can expect in the NFL: expect the unexpected,” Cassel said, via ESPN. “Because every week it changes. You never know what’s going to happen. I learned that over time. This is my ninth year now.”

Some think that Christian Ponder has already lost the job, and the signing of Josh Freeman means he is the future at quarterback. Cassel is simply filling in the gap between Ponder and Freeman this season. Head coach Leslie Frazier expressed support for Ponder and his future though.

“On the surface, he’d question that,” Frazier said. “He’s human. I’m sure he has at times, but he just has to continue to work and work as hard as he can. And I think things will work out fine for Christian in the long term.”
