Carolina Panthers’ running back Jonathan Stewart says he’s not ready to play just yet
By David Miniel
After coming off a big win against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Jonathan Stewart says he could need a couple more weeks before he’s game ready.
The veteran running back does not expect to suit up and play for the Panthers this upcoming week. He could be ready by the end of October from the looks of things. He underwent ankle surgery back in January after suffering an ankle sprain in Week 12 of the 2012 season.
That sprain put him on the sidelines for the remainder of the year and the decision to undergo surgery happened early 2013. Right now he’s on the physically unable to perform list, but could get pulled off at any time through Week 9 when he feels like he’s ready to go.
If Stewart isn’t ready by the end of the month or mid November, he may never be ready to suit up this season. With Stewart still not ready to play, DeAngelo Williams should continue to be this teams go-to running back.
Williams has almost 400 yards on 91 carries this season with no touchdowns. Big man Mike Tolbert has 111 rushing yards on 31 attempts with two touchdowns. He scored against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
