Tim Lincecum may not re-sign with the San Francisco Giants without testing the market
By David Miniel
Good morning everybody! Now today’s first topic of discussion will be San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum.
Lincecum is set to become a free agent for the first time in his career and may test the market before he decides to re-sign with the Giants. According to Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com, the Giants have offered a two year contract to the right handed pitcher but nothing has happened so far.
His production since his last Cy Young has been dropping as his home run totals has gone up steadily through out the last four seasons. His strike out totals for a season have even gone down along with the number of innings he has pitched.
Also according to Baggarly, the Seattle Mariners had a scout following him late in the season which could indicate that Seattle is interested in pursuing ‘The Freak’.
I wouldn’t be completely surprised if he gets a multi-year deal with another team as he could be looking to move on and get a fresh start in hopes of returning to Cy Young form.
This could possibly be good news for not only the Seattle Mariners, but the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox if they were looking to upgrade their rotation and add a two time Cy Young and three time Strike Out Champion to their roster.
I expect Lincecum to get a lot of attention during the Winter Meetings and wouldn’t be surprised if he gets sweet talked away from the San Francisco Giants.
Lincecum finished this season with a 10-14 record, 193 strike outs, 1.32 WHIP and 4.37 ERA through 197 2/3 innings pitched and 32 starts.
