Heading into Tuesday, it was widely expected that Indiana Pacers point guard George Hill would be (at best) a game-time decision, but according to at least one report, Hill didn’t make it to game time before being ruled out for the second straight contest.

Candace Buckner of Indianapolis Star is reporting that Hill will miss Tuesday’s game with the Pistons in what appears to be a precautionary move with his sore hip. There appears to be no real incentive to rush Hill back, either, as the Pacers (finally) invested in their bench during the off-season, and an example of that is Hill’s new back-up in CJ Watson.

On the year, Hill has appeared in only 2 of the Pacers’ 3 games, but he has averaged 13.0 points (on just 38.1% shooting) and 2.0 assists per game. Obviously, there are better days ahead for Hill, but the numbers may not go through the roof on an account of less reliance on the starters this season. The aforementioned Watson filled in admirably for Hill in Indy’s win over Cleveland on Saturday with 7 points and 6 assists, and the Pacers should be more than able to mask his other deficiencies for one night.

Stay tuned for more updates on Hill as they arrive, but it appears that Indiana is just playing this one safe.
