The Carolina Panthers started off 1-3 and looked like they were going to have a rough go this season. Then they went off on a four game win streak, and have a 5-3 record. That has veteran quarterback enjoying being a Carolina Panther this season.

“I’m literally laying there,” Smith told TheMMQB.com’s Peter King, “and I’m looking up, and this thought came to me: It’s good to be a Carolina Panther.”

Smith has had his fair share of hard times in Carolina. Before Cam Newton came to town he had multiple quarterbacks.

“Nothing to a football player is more degrading than going into a game hoping things don’t blow up into a disaster in the first quarter,” Smith explained. “You start thinking, What did I do to deserve this?”

The Panthers play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. This game will be a measuring stick for the Panthers to see how they can handle an elite team in the NFL.

“I think this team is ready to play a game like this,” Smith said. “The intensity of it will be good for some of our young players. It’ll wake some of them up. I think it’ll be a chippy game, which is in my element. Good old-fashioned football.”
