Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was arrested on Sunday for possession of marijuana after he was stopped for speeding. He was released after posting the $750 bond and he has a court date on December 18th. Bowe has released a statement on his arrest.
The statement reads:
“I apologize to the Hunt Family, Coach Reid, my teammates and the Chiefs fans for the distraction I have caused the team this week. Due to the nature of the pending matter, I am unable to make any further comment on the situation.”
Head coach Andy Reid wouldn’t comment on the situation either citing the “legal matter” excuse. He did say that Bowe will start.
“It is a legal matter and that’s the way we’ll handle it. Let it run its course there,” Reid said. “Dwayne will play, he’ll start.”
Reid and the Chiefs could come under fire from fans for allowing him to play on Sunday without repercussions for his actions. This would fall under the league’s substance-abuse policy, and they could suspend him for it. They would wait until the charges in Riverside are fully adjudicated. The timing is poor on Bowe’s part. They play the Denver Broncos twice in the next three weeks.
