The Indianapolis Colts defense hasn’t exactly been a unit that looks capable of allowing the team to make a run in the playoffs. That’s because the offense is no longer capable of carrying the team after they lost wide receiver Reggie Wayne for the year after he tore his ACL three weeks ago.

So what if the Colts could sign a player who contribute on both defense and at wide receiver? Free agent safety Ed Reed isn’t someone you’d think could be that kind of player, but Colts owner Jim Irsay did float that very idea on Twitter today:

This move is unlikely to happen for the reason Irsay mentioned in the tweet, but the Colts could definitely use Reed on their defense, even if all he does is play limited snaps and coach the younger players up on the sidelines. He’d be a nice veteran presence for a team lacking such.
