What: Tyus Jones college commitment
When: Friday, Nov. 15
Time: 4 p.m. ET
TV: ESPNU
The nation’s No. 1 recruit is Whitney M. Young center Jahlil Okafor, and he’ll be signing his LOI this week. The 7-footer from Chicago will announce his college decision Friday during ESPNU’s recruiting special, which begins at 4 p.m. An ESPN press release Wednesday said that Okafor will choose either the Duke Blue Devils or the Kansas Jayhawks.
But he won’t be alone in announcing his commitment today, as five-star point guard Tyus Jones, whom Okafor is intent on playing with in college, has also narrowed his list to Duke and Kansas and the two players will announce simultaneously on Friday. The two players are close friends and have long said they plan to play at the same school.
247Sports predicted the Blue Devils as a significant favorite over the Jayhawks. According to their “Crystal Ball”,a predictive panel of the site’s most reputable insiders and experts, Jones and Okafor are projected to commit to Duke and give the Blue Devils the likely No. 1 recruiting class in America for 2014.
They visited Duke last weekend on an official and despite whispers that Okafor wasn’t thrilled with the visit, he said he remains undecided.
"“To all these ‘sources’ saying they know where I’m going to school because someone ‘close’ to me told them. Quit the lies. I DONT KNOW YET,” he Tweeted."
It does appear that whoever gets their commitment, one thing is for sure: They will be one of the best point guard-big man duos in college basketball in 2014.
"“We’re pretty positive,” said Jones on a Monday night radio appearance on 105 The Ticket. “It’s not 100 percent that we’re going to the same school, but it’s up there pretty close to 100.”"
