Minnesota distracts kicker with a dramatic Golden Gopher

The Minnesota football team has been known as the punch line of the Big 10 Conference for some time now.

I know, I know, you thought the Vikings were it, but there’s a college team in Minnesota that plays football. Because you probably didn’t know (I certainly didn’t) t’s actually the “University of Minnesota, Twin Cities” and for a long time the school was known more for it’s basketball. Heck, Minnesota basketball is playing Syracuse pretty tough in the early going as I write this.

But like I said, the football team (save for a pretty short stretch in the mid-2000’s when they were still in the Metro Dome) has been the punch line of a conference that employs the likes of the Michigan’s, Ohio State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State and most recently Nebraska along the others. But now the joke is on their opponents, because Minnesota football is back, and it’s having fun in the process.

This tweet from SBNation shows just how much fun the Golden Gophers are having this season.

If you are a Gopher fan and this is your thing, please don’t be insulted that we’re just seeing this. It’s just been a long time since you mattered enough to look. But good to see you back on the national map in football and this is an awesome photo of creativity. If I were an opposing kicker, that would probably ruin my concentration. I mean, what does that thing want anyway!? Is it looking at me!?

Of course, they would never let me be a kicker, so there’s that. Also, the Wisconsin kicker went 2 for 3 in the football game that this photo was taken from this past weekend, so it must not have bothered him too much.
