The New York Giants have announced that center Jim Cordle will be placed on injured reserve with a partially torn patella tendon. The injury occurred Sunday in the game between the Giants and Dallas Cowboys; the Cowboys ultimately went on to win the game 24-21.  Cordle has been the starting center for this season.

When Cordle went down, Kevin Boothe moved over from guard to center with James Brewer coming in to play guard.  There has been no announcement to this point who the Giants will opt to sign in light of this news.

At this point, 4-7, the Giants are still technically alive for a playoff spot, but much of the remainder of the season seems to be just about getting out of it without any more disastrous injuries.  A timetable for Cordle’s injury has not been announced at this point.  The Giants prepare to go on the road to play the Washington Redskins on Sunday night; a battle between two teams that have combined for 7 wins this season.
