The Carolina Panthers will be without running back DeAngelo Williams today according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Williams didn’t practice this week so it isn’t that surprising even though he was listed as questionable on the injury report. Williams has been fighting a quad injury.

That means Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert will be carrying the load. Stewart will handle early-down situations likely, while Tolbert will handle short yardage, goal-line and third down situations.

“A lot of concern with DeAngelo. Everyone else, we’ll see how they are tomorrow. They had good practices today,” head coach Ron Rivera said earlier in the week, via the team’s website. “Without DeAngelo, you’d have Jonathan, Mike Tolbert and Kenjon Barner. That’s still a pretty formidable group. We’ll see.”

Wide receiver Steve Smith missed practice Thursday but practiced on Friday.

“I’m not concerned about Steve at all,” Rivera said.
