This weekend saw the trade rumors surrounding Matt Kemp being sent to the Boston Red Sox heat up and it’s gotten a lot of people excited. But while Red Sox fans have ben debating the possibility of acquiring Kemp and how it could hurt or help the team, WEEI in Boston is reporting that there’s actually nothing to really talk about. Despite rumors heating up, there is apparently nothing to the reports that Boston is in talks to acquire Kemp from the Dodgers.
Los Angles has been trying hard to trade Kemp for a few months now and this weekend looked like the start of something between the Dodgers and Red Sox.
But as fans have pointed out, the Red Sox would likely have little need for an injury prone outfielder, but those doubting the acquisition are forgetting how great he is when he’s healthy. The key phrase in there being ‘when he’s healthy’ as Kemp battled injury all season long last year and wasn’t able to help the Dodgers in the postseason due to an ankle injury late in the year.
Boston is still looking to acquire an outfielder though and the rumors that they’re chasing Shin-Soo Choo haven’t yet been debunked. But it’s looking like Choo is the more likely option for the Red Sox as the Kemp talks weren’t as serious as we initially thought.
