Captain Munnerlyn takes Geno Smith to the house (GIF)

The Carolina Panthers are in the middle of hosting the New York Jets today in hopes of catching the New Orleans Saints for the division lead in the NFC South.
The Panthers defense has come through in a big way this season as they’ve proven to be not only a playoff contender, but a contender for the division. In New York’s possession after a Mike Tolbert rushing touchdown, the Jets were looking to add some points of their own.
Captain Munnerlyn had something else in mind that could have put this game out of reach. Smith, who has struggled over the last couple of games, fired the ball down field looking to hit Santonio Holmes. Geno threw into double coverage, which included Munnerlyn who picked off the pass and took off for the end zone.
Munnerlyn now has seven career interceptions with five of those going for touchdowns. It was a huge 41 yard return that extended Carolina’s lead to 17 late in the fourth quarter.
The Saints are currently down 27-3 in the fourth quarter of their game. If the scores happen to stay the same, both of these teams will be playing for the division lead next Sunday when they meet head to head in Carolina.
