NBA Trade Rumors: Thaddeus Young requests trade from Philadelphia 76ers
By Josh Hill
The biggest and hottest trade rumor over the last 72 hours has been about Omer Asik moving from the Houston Rockets to either the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers or Cleveland Cavaliers. But we saw those talks blow up today and it appears Asik won’t be going anywhere for the time being, however another player might be very soon.
Last night, quotes from Philadelphia 76ers veteran Thaddeus Young surfaced in which he was blasting the young players on the team and essentially calling out the franchise for wanting to tank. Today comes word from Young’s agent that his client would like to play somewhere else and would greatly appreciated if he were traded to a different team.
Jake Fischer from Liberty Ballers quoted a source that informed him that Young has requested a trade out of Philadelphia, meaning that whole Omer Asik situation could heat up in the 11th hour.
"“Thad is ready to leave Philly,” the source said. “He isn’t with the whole tanking thing…. He just wants them to do the trade if they are. He hates waiting. [Playing for a contender] would be great because the Sixers definitely aren’t making the playoffs this year.”"
Philadelphia was one of the team Adrian Wojnarowski listed as a finalist to land Asik and Young’s name was mentioned as trade bait. This doesn’t mean talks between Houston and Philly will heat up before Friday’s self-imposed deadline, but it does mean that Thaddeus Young’s days in Philly could be numbered and a trade could come down soon.
