Right guard J.R. Sweezy won’t play for the Seattle Seahawks when the team hosts the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Head coach Pete Carroll made the announcement on Friday, citing a concussion Sweezy suffered against the New York Giants last week.
"J.R. is going through the process, the protocol, and did not make it. So we’ll keep him out this week. It happened in the game and we did not realize it was an issue until afterwards."
Michael Bowie, a rookie out of Oklahoma State, has been taking reps in place of Sweezy this week. Bowie, who started seven games at right tackle this year after Breno Giacomini was hurt, spoke about his opportunity to start again:
"I’ll be ready. I had a good week of preparation. Even though I haven’t been active the last couple weeks, my mind has still been in it every week that I’m going to be active. So I’ve been preparing like I’m going to play every week."
The game between the Seahawks and Cardinals can be seen at 1:05 p.m. PT on Fox.
