In wake of the back injury suffered to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, the team tried out a number of players for the position and opted to go with Jon Kitna to back up Kyle Orton.  Kitna, now 41, has been with the Cowboys as recently as 2011 and the hope is he will never need to see the field, but they opted to choose him over other quarterbacks that were brought in for tryouts including David Carr, Tyler Thigpin and John Skelton.  The Cowboys have not ruled out Romo yet and are calling him day to day after initial reports had him out for the season and requiring surgery.

It remains to be seen if the Cowboys are just trying to make the situation sound better than it really is, as Romo goes through epidural injections in hopes of making the pain in his back somehow manageable enough to play whether it be this week or what the Cowboys hope is in the first round of the playoffs.   As it is, this is the reason the Cowboys brought in Orton, so they hope he can do enough to lead the Cowboys over the Philadelphia Eagles to qualify for the postseason.
