WWE shouldn’t push Batista over CM Punk, Daniel Bryan

I get that Batista “aka The Animal” is a huge deal and his return is going to be a huge moment for the WWE in 2014.

I get that he’s a former World Champion, Tag Champion and Royal Rumble winner. I get that he’s both a credible threat and a credible champion. I also get that he’s a very established name who is starting to gain some popularity in the movies.

With that said, there’s no reason for Batista to win the Royal Rumble and go on to face Randy Orton, or whoever the champion will be at the time, at Wrestlemania.

That’s the report though, at least according to Bryan Alvarez of www.wrestlingobserver.com. My friends over at Bleacher Report transcribed his report, so here’s what it said:

"He will be returning on the Raw prior to the Royal Rumble, wrestling on that show, and likely winning the event and going on to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania. Batista, who will turn 45 just prior to his re-debut, left the company several years ago due to his disappointment in the PG direction. He has been doing movie roles of late including Guardians of the Galaxy. The idea is that this is not a one-time Mania deal, but rather a “last run” that could go as long as two years, with the exception of time this summer spent promoting his film."

I’m more than happy with Batista coming back for a few years and that would be great for the WWE. I’m more than happy with him winning the championship eventually and doing some big things during this “last run” with the company.

Pushing him to win the Rumble over guys like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan would be absurd though. At least right now.

These two have been the focal point of the fan’s affections for some time now—Bryan has been on-fire as of late—and many expect them to play a prominent role in the Royal Rumble. Many expect one of them to win, actually.

Punk, in particular, is the more credible of the two in regard to championships are concerned, and fans of his have been waiting for him to re-enter the main event picture ever since dropping the title to The Rock last year.

The case can be made that Punk and Bryan literally carry RAW and keep it interesting, and setting up a main event showdown for one, or even both of them, would be a huge move by the WWE. The fans would be happy, and we’d be guaranteed some great wrestling and promo work. What more can you ask for heading into WrestleMania season.

This is not to say that Batista can’t draw or do the things that Punk and Bryan can. More so, it’s that Punk or Bryan are more deserving of that big WrestleMania push right now. It would be a shame to see someone come in and steal that away from them, Batista or not.
