There was some debate about whether division winners should automatically get to host playoff games. In all but one Wild Card round match up, the away team had a higher record. The only case where the home team had a better record was the Cincinnati Bengals hosting the San Diego Chargers. The 11-5 Indianapolis Colts also hosted the 11-5 Kansas City Chiefs.
The 12-4 San Francisco 49ers had to travel to Wisconsin to take on the 8-7-1 Green Bay Packers. There has been some discussion about whether division winners should host playoff games automatically stemming back to the 7-9 Seattle Seahawks hosting the New Orleans Saints a few years back.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says there is no momentum to reseed the playoffs.
“I don’t think there is momentum for that,” Goodell said, via NFL.com. “I would probably disagree. There may be momentum in the media, that happens when you see San Francisco going to Green Bay, but one of the premises we start with every season is that your first objective is to win the division. And when you win the division, you should have a home game.”
