When J.R. Smith untied Shawn Marion’s shoes at the free throw line earlier in the week, some thought it was a cute joke while others saw the storm brewing. After a second attempt to untie an opponents shoes during a game, the league fined Smith and his team benched him for an entire game.

The Knicks are fed up with Smith and his antics, so much so that they’re actively trying to trade him in order to rid themselves of his presence. Some are saying this is just a scare tactic, but after his recent benching on Thursday night, Smith is reportedly keeping his distance from the team and isn’t entirely sure of his future in New York.

If the Knicks somehow find someone cray enough o give up assets to acquire Smith in a trade, they’re going to jettison him in a heartbeat. The situation in New York is toxic enough without Smith’s antics and his behavior has seemingly united the Knicks against him.

Finding someone to take on his contract and his issues is easier said than done, with one rival GM saying last night that the only place he sees Smith going is China. Right now he’s in New York and looks to be there until he’s traded, is run out of town or cleans up his act.
